In September 2008, EZEKIEL HOUSE DRUG AND ALCOHOL RECOVERY CENTRE opened its doors to its first residents, in Zwavelpoort.  Ezekiel House is faith based and was started by Casey and Judy Kooiman; themselves recovered addicts, in response to the growing demand for a recovery centre in Pretoria.

The focus is on the physical, mental and spiritual recovery in a safe and tranquil environment.

Ezekiel House falls under the umbrella of the Guardian Project Ministry, which is dedicated to waging the war against drugs and drug addiction in our country.  Addiction is a destructive force that contaminates whoever and whatever it comes into contact with, killing without prejudice and leaving families destroyed.  The Guardian Project is affiliated with 3Ci Church, the SAPS, Tough Love, Muay Thai SA and is supported by several medical practitioners.

Ezekiel House offers an affordable long term (8 – 12 months) recovery program, which is split into 4 phases. The successful completion of each phase will better equip the resident with the skills necessary to move forward with his/her life.

The Primary Care phase focuses on personal wellbeing and identification of behavior and thinking errors.  Each resident is assigned a counselor and counseling sessions are held weekly.  Spiritual Life and Holy Spirit classes are an important part of this phase of recovery and this teaches the resident that they are not alone in making and maintaining the decision move away from “addict” behavior to a new lifestyle.

The Secondary Care phase focuses on the re-integration of the resident back into society, whether it be the workplace, university or school.  A New Life Management Plan is set up by the resident and Directors of Primary Care and Counseling and focuses on structure and discipline, spiritual life, personal dignity and restoration and management of relationships.

Once the resident has continued to prove faithful with his/her newfound freedom over a period of time and their conduct, spiritual growth, responsibility and accountability fall within the bounds of the New Life Management Plan, and then they will be eligible to leave Ezekiel House.
